Anxious Tim: Fixing Reactivity and Separation Anxiety!

We went to see Tim, the German Shorthaired Pointer. Tim is very friendly with people. He is very foodie at home but follows his owners around and gets bad separation anxiety when they leave.

This means the owners can't go out unless they find someone to watch him. Tim is very anxious and stressed, which is not good for his health. He howls and wheezes when left alone. He is also nervous and reactive towards bigger dogs.

The owners are fantastic and did our puppy class a couple of years ago. Tim knows many engagement-style games but doesn't pay attention to his owners when out. We've gone back to engagement-style games to help him focus on his owners outside, helping him relax rather than being hyper-vigilant.

Tim has issues eating outside, indicating stress, as he is very food-motivated inside. We're building that engagement by giving him all his food outside, making him comfortable and focused on enrichment outside. This is our first step for his separation anxiety.

We're also teaching a no-follow rule, so his owners can walk around the house without him getting anxious. These were just the first steps in our first session.

We'll be back to see Tim soon to level up this training and get results. Well done to his owners and Tim. You've all done great, and I'll see you again soon.
