Benji the Nervous Rescue Pup

This is the lovely Benji, the foreign rescue.

He was rescued and brought to the UK in July last year and is around 6 years old.

He’s a very nervous pup who has now bitten family members twice, once when one walked in unexpectedly and again when another family member tried to hug his guardian.

It because very obvious very quickly that Benji has no confidence. Even having him follow a treat causes him to back off and avoid the pressure.

We’ve started by managing the environment and creating a plan for when the things that trigger him happen, this will mean he isn’t practicing the unwanted behaviours and it will allow him to relax while we train.

Next, we have set up a training plan for this that had to be pressure free. This is very basic and easy for him to do with lots of little wins.

Finally we have started counter conditioning to people and dogs which will ultimately avoid any further bites.
