Chase the Reactive Cocker Spaniel

This little cutie is Chase. He’s a lovely pup that loves people.

He is reactive towards other dogs when on a short lead and if they approach when off lead. He’s alright when he gets there, but isn’t really sure how to interact properly and a bit anxious about it.

He runs and just wants to chase without greeting.

Chase had been getting walked on a short lead due to his behaviour, so the first thing we did is switched to a long line, in big open areas where he could have his flight response back and have time to process the other dogs being there and give him a choice.

Then we simply wait for him to make the right choice in a situation where he is very unlikely to make the wrong one, then we reward!

In the meantime, we will work on his loose leash walking which will mean he can ignore dogs whether he is on a short lead or not.

Chase will do fine and has made some great steps already!

Well done chase and co
