A Labrador's First Steps Towards Better Manners and Reliable Recall’
Today marks an exciting milestone for Ziggy, an exuberant Labrador, who embarked on his first training session with us at 'The Dog Trainers.' Ziggy is a delightful, energetic young fellow, known for his boundless enthusiasm when visitors come to his home. While his fervor is endearing, it can sometimes be overwhelming for guests. Additionally, Ziggy has been facing some challenges with recall, a crucial skill for every dog to master.
Getting to Know Ziggy
Our first encounter with Ziggy was a whirl of wagging tails and doggy kisses - a true testament to his friendly and energetic nature. His eagerness for affection and play is infectious, filling any room with joy and laughter. However, his excitement often exceeds the comfort level of new visitors, something we will be focusing on during our sessions.
The Plan for Ziggy
Our primary goal with Ziggy is to teach him to manage his excitement around visitors and to improve his recall ability. For the over-excitement, we'll be using positive reinforcement techniques to reward calm behavior and encourage self-control. The objective is not to suppress Ziggy's friendly nature but to channel it into a more manageable greeting that respects the comfort of visitors.
As for improving Ziggy's recall, we'll start with controlled environments, gradually increasing distractions as his responses improve.
