Frustration and Genetics

We met Thor the Rottweiler for the first time today, he showed his gratitude by giving me a slaver shower of slobbery licks.

Thor is showing some aggressive behaviors that appear to be random while out on a walk.

Thor is a very frustrated, young dog that seems to have some poor genetics by a questionable breeder. It also seems like he hasn’t been giving clear enough direction on what is being asked of him in certain circumstances, which has led to him making some bad choices.

Realistically, his owners have done an awful lot with him, some good socialization and training in classes, so with the foundations he had, it shouldn’t take much to get him back onto the straight and narrow, with some little changes, training, and counter conditioning.

Today we started with loose leash walking, which will be key to this. We also discussed how reversible chemical castration may also help him and is reversible if it makes him worse.

Thor will do great, he’s my kind of big slobbery dog.
