How to resolve barking in the garden, with Eider the Lab

Updated: Dec 23, 2022

This was our second session with the lovely Eider the fox red lab who needed some dog training in Newcastle.

Eiders owners are expecting another human baby so wanted to get on top of some of Eiders training issues well in advance, which is fantastic!

Eiders main issue was that she pulled on the lead. She also had burst through the door when it opens and immediately barks in the garden.

Last session, we sorted his loose leash and just tweaked it slightly during this session.

The barking outside is caused by anticipation of a scary event, so in order to resolve this, we create anticipation of a positive event instead.

We taught a wait at the door, then a few pieces of food are thrown into the garden followed by Eider being released to sniff this food out.

During the session we also chatted through the main parts of having a dog and a baby and how to prepare Eider well in advance.

Eider and her owner did fantastic!
