Today our dog trainer in Boldon had our second session with Yogi (the lighter coloured dog) the French bulldog.
We have been asked to help as their guardian is pregnant and wants to get on top of some of their issues before the baby arrives.
Yogi is a lovely pup that is frustrated by other dogs and wants to go and see them. When he does, he stalk, barks, lunges and can nip at other dogs
Yogi had a pretty huge reactivity distance, if he could see the dog, he would stalk, regardless of how far away.
A couple weeks ago in his first session, we:
Started rewarding eye contact whenever he offered it
Taught a marker cue to interrupt stalking and teach Yogi that seeing dogs means he gets a treat.
Taught a hand touch to be able to get him to move around the home without getting aggressive
Started avoiding areas where he would see dogs to give him a break while we got foundations in place.
Today when we went back, his loose leash walking was a million times better and he offered a lot more eye contact.
We then had him working around one of my dogs and teaching him that when she appears the treats appear too.
By the end of the session, the entire session we worked Yogi under the threshold and were able to have him working around other dogs within 3 meters by the end of it!
It’s great to work with guardians that are planning way ahead of time (we were contacted as soon as they found out she was pregnant!) and not leaving it until the last minute to try and sort their dog's issues before their baby arrives!
Yogi did amazing and will be sorted in no time!
Well done Yogi and family!
