Recently we went back to see Jet the whippet.
Jet gets over-excited around other dogs and that causes him to become frustrated, which turns to anger, at which point he barked and lunged at other dogs.
Since starting his training, he is interested in other dogs but doesn’t kick off. He will now just watch, occasionally freeze or try to stalk, but with the skills, the owners have been shown they know how to prevent this from happening.
Training is more about changing emotions rather than just changing behaviors. If a trainer only punishes bad behaviors and doesn’t change the underlining emotion, it’s like putting a bandage on because of a broken bone. It’s a cover-up. A temporary fix.
Jet has only been training for a couple of months and has made huge strides in the right direction.
Changing reactivity is a marathon, not a sprint.
Jet is doing fab and will be completed sorted in no time!
Well done everyone
