We went back to see Jet the whippet!
Jet was brought up with loads of other whippets and was allowed to play constantly and by the sounds of it lived in an area where he didn’t see other dogs and wasn’t well socialised, now in his new home he is right by the beach, where there are dogs everywhere.
He wants to play but gets very frustrated, he also stalks which can look predatory to some dogs and can turn predatory very easily (ie by the sounds of another dog squealing).
When he gets frustrated there’s barking and lunging. These dogs often need time to see other dogs at a distance where they aren’t interested and from there we can teach them to disengage.
Jet is frustrated by dogs up to 200m away, in some environments, we have that down to 20m or so. However, his reactivity is on a lower scale already and he doesn’t scream and shout at shorter distances like he originally did, which is fab in such a short time.
Can’t wait to watch Jet progress
