Larry the Pointer cross German Shepherd cross Malinois was extremely reactive to other dogs, having a full-blown meltdown whenever he saw them, to the point where he was completely uncontrollable. Now, he's running around off-lead, playing with other dogs, and having the time of his life!
At the start, a lot of our training focused on loose leash walking and getting him calm. Initially, he was out of control, but with consistent training, he improved. Our training has evolved and changed as he's gotten better. He's now off-lead a lot more and on long lines, but because of this, his loose leash walking has slipped a little bit.
In this session, we went back to basics to refocus him and get him to focus on the owner and walk nicely next to her, nice and calm. It took a while to get him back in the swing of it, but by the end of the session, we got a solid ten minutes of loose leash walking and were able to even walk back to the car without any pulling past some dogs and distractions.
Larry is doing extremely well. We're now going to generalise loose leash walking again, so he does this everywhere. His behaviour is now fantastic. Well done to Larry and his owners!
