Light chasing is an odd behaviour, often caused by human encouragement with having our dogs chasing a torch or laser pen but it very easily gets out of hand.
Louis barks and chases reflections or light, for example light coming through the cracks in the curtains or reflections from watches etc.
This becomes extremely frustrating for Louis, because even if he gets to them, he can’t actually get the satisfaction of catching them or making them move.
We have started teaching Louis to indicate there are lights there in other ways, currently using a nose target. So when he sees the lights we are teaching him to nudge a person and from there he can get reinforced, and we are teaching this using a torch so that we are in control of the light.
From there, we will change the behaviour so he can settle around the lights and ignore them.
Louis is super clever, so should have no issue picking this up!
