Mani the Golden Retriever

Today we went back to see Mani the retriever.

Mani struggles to disengage from other dogs. Once he goes over to meet them, he struggles to then turn away and can become pushy with the other dogs who engage with him.

Occasionally, this has lead to fights breaking out, and now his owner losing confidence in walking him.

We have done a lot of work with Mani, and changed his response, and taught him to listen to his owner more.

The onus is now on his owner to learn to watch his body language and that of the other dogs. If these dogs aren’t going to be compatible, then it’s up to them to call him away.

A dog does not need to be friends with every other dog, just like not every person likes every other person - and that’s fine.

Mani and his owners are doing fab and have come a long way in a very short time, and I’m sure they will continue to make progress every day
