Max the Reactive Border Collie Puppy

On Wednesday, we went back to see Max the Border Collie Puppy.

For those that don’t remember this cutie, Max is very reactive to people, dogs, and traffic. He also has bitten before too.

I had absolutely no issues whatsoever getting close to Max from the outset, which showed me there is some clear confusion going on in Max’s head and his breed drive is being channeled the wrong way.

This is our second in-person session with Max and he is making fantastic progress. In the last 3 weeks, we have moved from him reacting across the road to people to being much closer and moved on to the second phase of the process, which is where he is automatically looking back to his guardians when he sees a person coming.

At the same time, we are desensitizing him to slow-moving traffic. A huge breakthrough was that he is also taking treats when he’s out, which he previously hasn’t done.

Behind the barking and lunging, Max is a very loving and friendly dog that just needed help learning what is the appropriate way to behave in public.

Great work everyone, see you all again in a couple of weeks!
