Ollie the Reactive Dog

It’s great to see one of our clients' dogs doing really well and with the right pet professionals.

We’ve posted a few times about Ollies training. A lot of years ago, he had a bad groom. He also resources guards.

These 2 problems meant that he became extremely hand reactive and his bit numerous times.

Part of my job is to make sure my clients' dogs are in the right care when with other pet pros and get their needs met and feelings are taken into consideration, whether this is walkers, boarders, vets, and in this case, groomers. Sometimes this means training other pet pros, other times it means finding new ones right for the specific dog's welfare.

It was absolutely essential that we found the right groomer who would work with him and his behavior problems, as his current one was putting a cone on him and wearing 2 pairs of Kevlar gloves so she wouldn’t feel his bites.

While he was allowed to rehearse this behavior and all his anxieties were being made real, he was never going to get over his hand reactivity.

We considered groomers from Scotland all the way down to Leicester, eventually settled on Brenna from Clipper & Blades Canine Services in Guidepost due to her being the only certified fear-free groomer in the North East and her having a diploma in canine behavior.

Ollie has started his grooming rehab and will soon be loving the brush!
