We have been back for some dog training in Jesmond with the lovely Reggie. This was our second session with him and we are seeing some awesome improvement.
Reggie reacts to people and dogs and is scared of cars/vans, especially if he has to get in one. This has meant that he has been quite difficult to walk as he pulls like a steam train to get as far away from traffic as he can, which increases his arousal and then makes him more likely to react to other triggers.
The last time we went out, he wouldn’t take food and he didn’t look at his guardians once.
So far we have worked on calming him down and building up focus then using this newfound focus around triggers.
You can see the cut at the bottom of the street on the video, schools where coming out and we got this level of focus without reactions around them, which was awesome.
His guardians have really worked on their own handling here and have practiced an awful lot! This is why Reggie now knows exactly what is being asked of him and there is no conflict or frustration.
We still have a way to go with Reggie, but his improvements so far are amazing!
