A dog jumping at guests is a frequent issue we come across when we are out and about, but Rocky's guardians regularly have kids over and this makes it even more important that we sorted this out!
Not to mention, he’s a pretty big fella!
Rocky, from Boldon, South Tyneside, has a few issues we’ve started sorting, these are over-excitement in the home, over-excitement and jumping up at guests and people outside, and getting over excited around dogs. Basically, he’s just a big overexcited pup
There’s plenty to do here, and we only got a 30-minute session due to the heat, but here is
what we did:
Taught a lie down then settle with duration. This will be used as an alternative behavior when people come over.
Taught a hand touch to guide Rocky away from the body and stop jumping.
Introduced a marker word. This will be used to build a new response to people - which Rocky picked up super fast!
Built an auto check-in so he orients back to his guardian rather than other people automatically.
Rocky was awesome and a lovely dog, a child came over at the end of the session, Rocky started walking there and automatically came back to his guardian instead. He picked this up SUPER FAST!
Well done Rocky!
