Rolo the Springador

Rolo has weekly sessions with us and the consistency and hard work of his owner have made a huge difference in Rolo's behaviour. His owner describes him as a different dog!

Rolo has completely mastered our previous training location: a busy but open area of the forest. Rolo has progressed from needing lots of distance to feel safe to now being able to pass other dogs on the path and stay focused on his owner. In this session, we went to a new location and Rolo absolutely aced it! From the minute he got out of the car he was engaged and able to ignore the other dogs with no input needed from his owner. He even greeted a new dog calmly and was able to disengage and move away on his own.

We then looked at Rolo's confidence as other dogs walked towards him on a narrow path.

To help keep Rolo feeling comfortable we allowed him to watch and then moved him to the side of the path to reduce his stress. This allows Rolo to experience the slightly scary thing in short manageable bursts.

Over the next few weeks, we'll let Rolo manage his disengagement, with the end goal of walking past dogs on a narrow path.

With his owners' dedication and the progress Rolo has already made, I'm confident that Rolo will start loving his walks along narrower paths!
