Scouting Out

Scout the Patterdale terrier loves scouting out other dogs (see what I did there?).

When he finds them, he pulls to the end of the lead, and if he can’t get further, barks and lunges.

First off, his lead walking wasn’t bad, so we only tweaked this by rewarding check-ins a little more.

Next, we looked at changing the behavior around other dogs. For this, we taught him a new cue and movement to teach him how to disengage from other dogs without getting frustrated.

Finally, we looked at his ankle-biting when he gets frustrated. There is a need here that needed to be filled, so we discussed how we can sort that and have a peaceful walk home at the end of a walk.

Scout did fab for his first session and will be sorted in no time!
