Scout is a heart stealer of a dog, you can’t help but love him!
We’ve worked with a scout for a couple of months now and he’s making some super process.
He’s 8 years old, so new behaviours will always take longer to teach.
Initially, he had the most poisoned recall cue I’ve ever seen. Basically, this means that as soon as he hears a recall or gets called back, he will try and do the exact opposite. Usually, this is a pretty straightforward fix, but not for Scout. We’ve had to build this from scratch several times over and ensure there is strict management in place to avoid him ignoring it.
He was also vehicle reactive - where he would lunge and bark at lorries, which we were able to sort in the first session pretty easily.
Finally, he is dog reactive and will bark and lunge at dogs if there is any tension in the lead. Again, he was pretty difficult to work on for this as any sort of interrupter or marker cue was poisoned along with the recall!
Finally, after trying quite a few different things, we found a particular cheese that he goes crazy for, and were able to transform his reactivity!
In this video, there are dogs being walked around him and a small group of people with dogs behind, he looks at the dogs and then looks back at his guardian like the good boy he is.
We then tested this with a load of other dogs and got the same results.
Well done Scout and co, there is so much hard work gone in here and it’s really paying off.
