Today our trainer Jaake visited Potato at his home in North Shields.

Potato is a super smart Goldendoodle puppy.

He lives with 2 other cats who are used to living with a dog. Potato can sometimes get a little overexcited in the company of the cats and likes to chase them when this happens. This isn’t fun for the cats and as they also enjoy the close company of their human we looked at creating a safe environment that the cats can relax in whilst Potato is there. We looked at using enrichment activities for not just Potato but also the cats to help them all relax together.

Potato responded really well to learning to go to his bed on cue, we will build on this to help him learn an alternative behaviour to chasing his feline housemates.

We also started to teach Potato a “hand touch” so we can recall him or redirect him away from the cats if needed.

Potato did so well in our session and he was lovely and relaxed by the end. In our next session, we will look at working with Potato and the cats together.
