He has gone from constantly pulling on the lead to being able to walk to a heel from leaving his house. He is allowed more freedom to roam when his owner says the cue "go sniff", so he is still getting lots of mental stimulation and opportunity to explore, but only when it's appropriate to do so.
He also used to lie down and excitedly lunge at passing dogs, however, we created a habit of looking at a dog for a few seconds and then disengaging to get a treat from his owner. An off-lead dog was within 2 meters of him today, he looked up for a second then put his nose to the ground to find some scattered treats.
He has learned that staring and lunging get him nothing, but looking away gets him yummy rewards.
Amazing work!
