Working around distractions with Milo the Cockapoo

Today we headed back over to Whitley Bay to see Milo. Since we visited last time, he stealing items from around the house for attention has reduced dramatically and he’s much more relaxed during the day.

This time, we were working in his recall and teaching him to ignore people and other dogs.

Currently, Milo sometimes runs off and into peoples houses, ignores all requests from his guardian around dogs and jumps up at people walking past.

Here’s what we did:

  • Re-introduced a longline to prevent rehearsal of ignoring the recall cue and running off.

  • Re-built his recall using the Run-Away-Recall game.

  • Reinforced check-ins

  • Started to teach him that when people and dogs appear, his favourite food comes out!

Milo did awesome, recalled really well and even auto checked in when another off lead dog ran over to him!

Well done Milo and co!
